Julia first got involved in political activism while attending the University of California, Santa Barbara. She worked with multiple local and statewide nonprofits to successfully execute campaigns to establish state-wide renewable energy goals and elicit commitments to ban fracking for oil in California and along the Pacific coast. She also represented UCSB as a student lobbyist, engaging with elected officials at the state and federal level in a campaign which culminated in the first tuition reduction in nearly two decades. In 2018, she oversaw the Iowa Democratic Party’s field program in Ames, Iowa, designing a student voter turnout program that effectively increased turnout by 140%. She has interned in the offices of Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer (IA01) and Congressman Salud Carbajal (CA24).
Julia graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with honors in 2019, completing her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in just three years. Julia is active in Iowa politics and advises Democratic campaigns on student voter turnout strategy. Although she now resides in Ames, Julia’s California roots become evident whenever temperatures drop below 60 degrees. In her free time Julia likes to peruse the Des Moines Farmers Market, explore the best art museums in the Midwest, and listen to lots of podcasts.
